Please tell us a little about yourself.

I’m a formally trained South African lawyer who now lives in Australia. I’ve traded the long working hours and demanding clients for even longer hours and very demanding children 🙂

My husband and I moved to Sydney 18 months ago with our two children and we hit the ground running. Through explaining our adventures to family and friends I started a blog which developed into a website AllThingsMomSydney.com which now keeps me very very busy.

What’s one type of flooring you use in your children’s room and why?

That’s so easy!! We have just re-done the floors in our home and we put carpets in the kids rooms. We were debating what to do because Sydney is hot, especially in the summer, but our son came to us and told us that he would really like a soft carpet to play on so that made the decision for us.

Carpeting isn’t the easiest to clean crayon or red juice off of but when it comes to keeping the kids happy and making them love the space they sleep in it’s important that they feel comfortable in the space and that they want to be there.

Why did you decide to start a blog? What do you enjoy about blogging

The blogging came from always telling different people the same information about the places we visited.

From there I found myself sharing ideas and tips with other moms on exploring Sydney with kids and raising kids in general (DISCLAIMER: I am no expert, at all).

The blog now draws readers from around the world and allows me to research and write – 2 things I’m trained to do as a lawyer (aside from talking and arguing :))

Where do you find most of your inspiration?

My head spins non-stop! Everything I see, everything I read gives me a new idea and new material to write on.

I think I’m sitting on 50 draft posts that need to be finalized.

Can you explain a recent project you’ve been working on?

Currently I’m dealing with quite a contentious issue – religion. Over January I am introducing my readers to 3 moms who are raising their children in accordance with 3 different religions. The idea is to draw attention to the real people behind the religions we so often have opinions about.

On a completely unrelated topic, I have been on holiday with my children in South Africa for the last month and have been documenting our travels through reviews on the blog and in pictures on Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/allthingsmomsydney/).

If you haven’t travelled in Africa or Australia before you should definitely take a look at the Instagram or Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/AllThingsMomSydney/) account because they are truly unique continents in terms of the people and the landscape.
